Soon-to-be-retired Democratic Labour Party (DLP) parliamentarian Hamilton Lashley says Prime Minister Freundel Stuart should wait until next February to send Barbadians to the polls.
Doing it too soon, he said, would be “political suicide”.
Although he will not face the electorate, having just announced his decision to retire from active politics after 19 years, Lashley told the SUNDAY SUN that the DLP would have a better chance of winning a second term if the poll was held later rather than sooner.
The next election is constitutionally due by April 2013, but Stuart has not yet disclosed when it will be held.
