It was a warm FRIDAY NIGHT.
Just a stone’s throw away, “women of the night” were beginning to gather at Bush Hill, The Garrison, St Michael – an area known for the sale of sex.
Driving towards The Clock Tower next to the Garrison Savannah, I heard another kind of activity taking place. The sound of worship pierced the atmosphere as men, women and children danced and delighted in the Lord.
It was the weekly night service of Serving The Lost At Any Cost, a ministry headed by Prophetess Marguerite Breedy-Haynes.
The worship continued for more than 30 minutes after my arrival and it was impossible not to get caught up in this atmosphere of thanksgiving.
Later, in her message entitled How Do Christians And The Church Profess Their Love For Christ, Breedy-Haynes made it clear that “if a person truly loved God, he or she would obey His teachings and keep His commandments”.
Preaching on this truth as stated in John 14:15: “If you love Me, keep My commandments”, this minister noted that many people claiming to be Christians and lovers of Jesus Christ were not living their lives “according to the scriptures”.
She stressed: “Congregations are filled with lesbians and homosexuals who say they love the Lord. Many believers do not love their brothers and sisters but say they love God and many are tearing down each other.
“If the church – the body of Christ – would obey all that God commands us to obey, we would turn Barbados and the rest of the world upside down, but we are not obeying [God’s] teachings,” she reiterated.
She explained that when the early believers – disciples and apostles – allowed the Holy Spirit to live in and work through them, they brought change to the entire world.
“It is God’s wish that each individual obey His Word and live according to His teachings. Are we as believers totally sold out for God? Are we truly God’s servants?” she asked.
“The only way to escape from the prince of this world who seeks to destroy your life is by totally obeying God’s Word,” she told her listeners, and warned that the “prince” is about to make his appearance.
She also urged believers not to fall in love with the things of this world, [not to] walk in envy, lust or hatred, but learn to respect one another.
She reminded them that “if anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him”. – 1 John 2:15.
The outspoken preacher further seized the opportunity during her message to lambaste Christians who get caught up in revelry during Crop Over.
“Taking part in a ‘walk holy’ band is revelry, and no Christian [taking part in such a band on Kadooment Day] can influence anyone at that time.” – 1 Corinthians 10:7; Exodus 32:6.
“God says we should fear Him. If believers are to manifest Christ in their lives, they must first fear Him. The love of God [and what He stands for] should be manifested more than anything else in the world,” she said.
She further stressed that believers prove their love for Christ when they go after the lost at any cost, counting themselves lost to sin so that Christ would become gain to others.
