Tight ship

GOVERNMENT is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to tighten its budget and curtail expenditure in each of its departments as it battles “to control costs”.
 Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy made this disclosure to the DAILY?NATION last night, saying Government was sticking “as close as possible to its estimates that have been set out for expenditure for this financial year”.
 “This is our policy,” he said. “We have not shied away from it. In relation to employing public servants, we have not engaged in mass hirings for the sake of just employing people.
“Part of the headache we have is trying to pay the salaries of the existing complement of public servants. That’s what we are all about. It is about holding back until we can ride out this period we are in.”
