A hero’s welcome for Keshorn

Trinidad and Tobago’s Olympic gold medallist Keshorn Walcott returned home to a reception fit for a king yesterday.And the 19-year-old javelin champion was immediately promised a wide range of gifts by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.Before thousands of excited Trinidadians at Piarco International Airport, Persad-Bissessar announced Walcott would be given TT$1 million (BDS$333 000), a house valued at TT$2.5 million (BDS$780 000), a scholarship at the University of Trinidad and Tobago, a Caribbean Airlines aircraft would be named after him, the lighthouse at Toco would be named the Keshorn Walcott Toco Lighthouse and the start of a Housing Development Corporation project in Toco.After the VIP reception at the airport, Walcott was accompanied to his Toco home in a motorcade.Here, Walcott raising his arms in celebration with his mother Beverly (left) and Persad-Bissessar (right).
