The?National?Union of Public Workers (NUPW) has been fighting for full recognition for a group of officers at the Child Care Board who are in a bind because of their professional qualifications.
The DAILY NATION was informed that the six officers had varying degrees in forensic psychology, youth and family mental health and other critical areas, but they were not being recognized as social workers because they did not have a degree in social work.
A source involved in the situation said the six employees were only being designated as child care officers and were not being promoted to senior positions or being allowed to act in senior positions because none of them had a degree in social work.
He also pointed out that even though they were all appointed civil servants, they were paid less than their counterparts who had social work degrees and who were employed in similar posts.
