Broomes sees way forward

Alexandra School principal Jeff Broomes is willing to return to work with the same teachers who are now demanding his separation.
And that’s the case even though he believes their representative, the Barbados Secondary Teachers Union (BSTU), is on a mission to destroy him.
It was during The Alexandra School Commission of Inquiry, which entered Day 34 yesterday, that Broomes gave his recommendations for the way forward at the St Peter school and shared his feelings about a possible future work relationship with the teachers, stressing that conflicts would have to be handled through mediation rather than confrontation.
Responding to Commissioner Frederick Waterman’s query as to whether he could see himself having a comfortable future at The Alexandra School with the current staff in place, the principal said: “Yes, sir, I can. I most certainly can. I have worked with this staff who obviously shared these feelings all along and I did not know many of them. It is now easier for me to deal with them.”
