LITTLE?DONIYA CODRINGTON was just a newborn baby when her mother Cassandra, father Donavere and three siblings perished in one of the worst tragedies in Barbados.
The Arch Cot Terrace, Brittons Hill, St Michael apartment complex which they had moved into just three weeks earlier collapsed into a cave.
Doniya, 5, is being raised by her grandmother Shirley Linton, who says the girl constantly asks about her parents. “She is always saying that she wants to see her mummy in Heaven,” Linton said with a smile.
Today, as Linton painfully marks the fifth anniversary of their death, which also occurred on?a Sunday, she is comforted by the love of her granddaughter.
While she still feels disadvantaged by the system, Linton says that looking at Doniya, who is the spitting image of her mother, usually warms her heart.
“She is a sweet, loving child and I have to tell myself not to worry because I have to be here for her.”
