Maple mourn loss of manager Yearwood

Sultry, overcast conditions cast a pall over the Weymouth ground yesterday at the start of play on the third and final day of the eighth-series LIME Elite Division match between CGI Maple and Seven Seas Police.
That setting mirrored the mood among players, officials and spectators, especially those associated with the Maple Sports Club, following the death of cricket team manager Barrington Yearwood Sr early in the morning at the age of 52.
Yearwood, a stalwart at the St James club for more than three decades, had been known to be battling illness recently.
The competitive all-rounder who bowled medium pace and was a handy, hard-hitting, right-handed batsman represented Maple in the First and Intermediate Divisions of the Barbados Cricket Association.
After retiring from active participation on the field of play he served his club as coach and manager of the senior cricket team.
Long-serving club member and supporter Leroy “Cy” Nurse described his passing as a great loss both to himself personally and to the Trents club.
“It is a great loss to me. I have shared many years of friendship with Barrington at Maple. He was a very, very nice person and I have lost a close friend,” said a clearly-shaken Nurse
“Here  was a loyal person who gave his heart, his all to Maple’s cricket. In conclusion I would like, on the behalf of my wife, who was also close to Barrington, and my family, to offer my deepest sympathy to his wife and the rest of  his family.”
