COACHES?at the National Sports Council (NSC)?put down their whistles yesterday when they held a brief strike outside the Blenheim, St Michael institution in solidarity with a colleague who was overlooked for promotion.
Hockey coach Ralph Watson told the DAILY?NATION that long-serving netball coach Sonja Banfield had not been upgraded during a recent upgrade of coaches but others who had been coaching for a shorter time were promoted.
He said coaches met yesterday to plan and make appointments for the new school term but walked off the job when they were greeted with the news.
After about two hours of quiet protest, they returned to work following assurances from officials of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), which sanctioned the work stoppage, that they would meet with management to discuss the issue. (MB)
