An off-duty police officer was taken to hospital by ambulance yesterday afternoon in serious condition after the motorcycle he was riding and a car collided on Government Hill, St Michael, just outside of the Springer Memorial School.
Shane Bryan of Baxters in St Andrew, who is said to be in his 20s, received injuries to his right leg.
According to sources close to the Barbados Fire Service, the accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. The motorcycle caught fire and the flames were extinguished.
Members of the Royal Barbados Police Force are carrying out investigations into the accident.
Curious onlookers gathered on the scene to get a glimpse of the collision and traffic was backed up in both directions along the road.
Driver of the car Michelle Lewis of School Road, Halls Road, St Michael, and the two children ages four and 11 escaped unhurt but appeared to be shaken by the accident. (RL)
