In the clear!

Deal or no deal?
That question was finally answered yesterday by Minister of the Environment Dr Dennis Lowe, who stoutly denied Government had gone over the head of this country’s Chief Town Planner, or had been involved in a special deal with owners of the controversial Bagatelle Metal Dump to have them open for business before an environmental assessment study could be completed on the project.
In speaking on the matter for the first time since work at the dump had been halted at the end of July by the Town Planning Department, Lowe, in responding to a question posed by a reporter regarding his previous silence on the matter and that opposition forces had claimed Government had overstepped its boundaries, said his Democratic Labour Party administration was in the clear regarding the Bagatelle controversy.
“The Government of Barbados has not swapped any land, at River Bay or the metal dump at Bagatelle,” Lowe asserted minutes after revealing his ministry’s plans at a press briefing for International Day of Preservation of the Ozone Layer, which comes off on Sunday.
