University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus principal Sir Hilary Beckles isn’t satisfied with the level of respect the institution is getting these days.
The outspoken principal and pro vice-chancellor made that clear yesterday as he outlined the part Cave Hill was playing in the development of Barbadian society in general.
“I am concerned with the lack of clarity in national thinking and speaking about the contribution of the UWI to economic growth and prosperity in Barbados,” he said when the campus received a donation of 40 acres of land from philanthropist and plantation owner Eddie Edghill, to be used to house a UWI Centre for Food Security and Entrepreneurship.
“Added to this is my concern with the orchestrated attempt to cast the university in a negative public light by recasting the record that shows it to be a proven and trusted partner in securing economic growth and ensuring prosperity,” the campus head said to those attending the centre’s launch at Dukes Plantation in St Thomas.
