 Dear Nesta,
Girl chile, how yuh doin’, neh? As long as yuh keep mindin’ yuh own bizness, t’inkin’ good t’oughts an’ gettin’ li’l daily activity – I talkin’ ’bout exercisin’ yuh whole body, not only yuh mouf – yuh should be headin’ in de right direction.
I down hey, burnin’ up when de days come. Leh muh tell yuh straight, ef dis heat I goin’ t’rough daily is jes’ a li’l tas’e o’ wuh hell gine be like, I really gine ha’ to straighten up an’ fly right to mek sure I don’ en’ up dey. Anyhow . . . as long as de storms keep on ignorin’ we, I t’ankful.
Chile, I really had to write you. Some time ago I read a story in de paper ’bout a judge up dey by you dat decide to allow a burglar to walk free. De paper say de man is a serial burglar. Dah mean dis is not de firs’ time ’e get ketch, right? He been t’iefin’ fuh some while, ent? Wuh, dah mek it all de wors’ fuh dah judge actions.
’Stead o’ droppin’ a good stiff sentence in dat man skin, fancy he could say ’e “showed courage in burgling a house”, an’ dat he, ’eself, won’ ha’ de nerve to be a burglar. It don’ look as ef ’e got de nerve to be a judge, neithuh, ef yuh ax me. You t’ink he right in he head?
I had to tek off muh spectacles an’ wipe duh mo’ dan once befo’ I put duh back on, only to realize I really was readin’ right. I wonder ef duh got any mo’ judges like he, neh?
Dem words din go down well a-tall wid de prime minister ’cause burglars went in at he, not once, but twice, so he was hoppin’ mad to hear dem sort o’ words comin’ from de mouf o’ somebody dat should know better an’ uphol’ de law.
Anethuh MP call de judge “an idiot” an’ none o’ de victims dat suffer at de burglar han’s was too please neithuh. Yuh really cyahn blame dem. It would appear dis t’ief is a “druggie” so yuh would onderstan’ he would rob de dead when ’e need money to feed ’e habit.
Dis judge believe prison en de bes’ place to reform anybody so after praisin’ de man fuh he courageous ack in enterin’ people homes, he pass a suspended 12-monf jail sentence, 200 hours o’ onpaid wuk, a one-year drivin’ ban an’ a two-year supervision order fuh ’e drug problem.
But Ness, wuh dis worl’ comin’ to a-tall? Yuh got to start wonderin’ wuh comin’ nex’ after a judge ’pon de Bench could call criminals, in dis instance burglars, “brave an’ courageous” to enter people homes widout a invitation an’ tek up duh belongings.
Ef yuh ax me, victims en got tummuch rights dese days. Ef burglars “brave an’ courageous”, wuh dah judge would call murderers? Some o’ dem does kill people in de wors’ way, only to get sen’ up fuh “life” to cool out at taxpayers expense while de fambly o’ dat victim gine never see duh loved one agen.
I en know how dah could be fair. Philomena an’ muhself was wonderin’ ef “life” really mean wuh it say, or ef, after many years o’ pretendin’ yuh change fuh de better by readin’ de Bible twenty-four/seven, yuh could appeal to de aut’orities an’ try to get outta prison.
Ef t’ings so wrong-sided all like now, you could imagine how dis worl’ gine be in anethuh 50 years? Lord, have ’Is mercy!

Tek care o’ yuhself
Yuh frien’ Babsie
