Strike to affect bus services

The Transport Board has described the action taken by employees who went on strike earlier today as “highly irresponsible”.
Management of the Board was reacting to the early morning walk off by some drivers and other workers. They say this action will affect services today, particularly, school services later this evening.
In a press release this afternoon the Board stated: “We consider this action taken by this group of employees to be highly irresponsible given the fact that the Transport Board is responsible for providing a reliable service to the Barbadian public, school children and workers alike.”
The management said they intend to meet with the Barbados Workers Union as soon as possible to discuss this matter.
The Transport Board has, therefore, advised the travelling public that there will be challenges for the remainder of the day.
“Unfortunately, one area which will be heavily impacted will be the school services for this evening.  Additionally, the route services will also be affected.  We apologise for this situation and we ask that the public be patient as we seek to address this matter.”
Management also stated there is no dispute between the Barbados Workers Union and the Management of the Transport Board.
It is also reported that the union has advised the drivers to go back to work. (CM/PR)
