A frail 87-year-old woman turned up on the doorstep of a St Michael family yesterday evening pleading with them to let her stay the night because she had nowhere else to go.
The family said Carmen Greenidge was well dressed and carried about five bags and a bucket, which she said contained her clothes and other possessions.
“It was raining, so we invited her in, but we cannot keep her,” a member of the family told the DAILY?NATION after contacting this newspaper because it was after hours and all Government agencies were closed.
In an interview, Greenidge explained that her house was destroyed by fire in 1999 and since then she had been either living on the streets, at strangers, friends or renting rooms.
