‘Gran’ Kadooment

For the fourth consecutive year, the Geriatric Hospital was transformed into a spectacle of colour and music as patients and staff participated in a mini Kadooment.
The elderly patients proved they still had a lot of life in them as they moved and grooved to the blaring soca tunes. Some were less mobile as they were restricted to wheelchairs, but that did not stop them from having a good time.
The Kadooment featured sections, themes, banners and even a Mother Sally.
The event, sponsored by LIME for the third time, had six sections – Kings and Queens of Hearts (Day care); Colour Blocking 2012 (Unit 1); Pepperlicious Jammers on Fire (Unit 2); The Clean Team (Housekeeping); The Aquamarine Posse (Unit 4) and a guest section from the Gordon Cummins Hospital called Untouchables. The costumes were designed by staff and the patients.
The short route was within the confines of the hospital, but the sun forced most of the participants to shelter under umbrellas and sip water.
Veteran band designer Gwyneth Squires was spotted on the sidelines. However, Squires said she was not acting in her regular role as a designer but was instead the judge for the proceedings.
Hospital manager Joanell Oxley-Worrell thanked everyone who made the mini Kadooment and their activities for Senior Citizens Week a success.
