Brittons Hill keep on winning

A TIE turned into a second half rout as defending champions Brittons Hill Combined pulled away for the 42-29 win against Remii Ballers in the Barbados Workers’ Union Netball Competition last Wednesday night at the Netball Stadium.
Remii Ballers came prepared for the match, holding a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and even forcing a 17-17 tie at half time in the Sir Roy Trotman Zone fixture.
But the game turned on its head in the second period as the defending champions showed their true colours, outscoring Remii 25-12.
Latonia Blackman led the way with 26 goals from 28 attempts at goal attack, while both shooters Kimberley Maynard (four from nine) and Kimberley Brathwaite (12/15) supported her efforts.
Kellyann Knight scored 23 goals from 36 attempts and Giselle Burke added six from 12.
Brittons Hill also won in the Ulric Sealy Zone, beating Youth Service 23-12. This game, like the seniors’, was a close one, with Brittons Hill leading 9-7 at the half, but they limited Youth Service to only five goals in the second.
Paulette Armstrong scored 12 from 15, Keisha Leslie ten from 18 and Shelly Carmichael added the other for the winners. Tiffany Mottley (five), Tanisha Maynard (six) and one from Danielle Gaskin combined for Youth Service’s 12 goals.
In the Linda Brooks Zone, L.E. Smith Diamonds defeated King’s Park 31-29 in a closely fought match.
Veteran shooter Deborah Kellman scored 20 from 28 and Cheryl Steele 11 from 15 as the Diamonds sparkled to maintain their two-goal half-time lead.
Nicole Layne scored  17 from 24 and Leandra Greenidge was a perfect 12 from 12 for King’s Park.
In the other match, Almond Lions came back after trailing 8-9 to beat Bagatelle Stars 21-15.
Shanise Patterson scored 18 from 25 and Shaneka Patterson added the other eight goals for the Lions, while Gail Lewis led Bagatelle with 12 from 27 and Iasia Butcher scored the other three. (SAT)
