Today regional airline LIAT and the Foundation for the Development of Caribbean Children (FDCC) joined forces to support some of the region’s most vulnerable children through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The signing was done during the official launch of The Sky is the Limit fundraising campaign at the Savannah Hotel.
The aim of the programme is to raise US$25 000 by the end of December this year.
These funds will be used for, among other things, to increase the number of children who benefit from The Roving Caregivers Home Visitation project currently on in Grenada,  St Vincent, Dominica and St Lucia.
Describing the partnership as “critical” to helping the region’s children to gain accesss to early childhood development (ECD), Susan Branker, consultant director of the FDCC said about 50 per cent of rural families had no information about how to mentally stimulate their children.
“Research shows that thirty per cent of our children have not acquired the basic skills to benefit from primary school education,” she said.
The FDCC was launched in late 2011 in St Vincent and the Grenadines. The Sky is the Limit is one of first major fund-raising projects of the FDCC since its launch. (MM)
