Barbados turned in an impressive performance on their way to capturing the overall title at the recent Central American And Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding And Fitness Championships in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Along with copping the coveted title, the Barbados team returned home with five gold and six silver medals from a very dominant showing.
Hoskin “Biscuit” Worrell led the way for Barbados, winning both the Masters and the light middleweight divisions, while there were also first-place finishes for Patrick Harris in the lightweight division, Saskia Griffith in the bikini contest and Antoinette Downie in the body fitness category.
Worrell, who placed second to Ramon Broomes at this year’s National Championships, overcame that disappointment to snatch both titles, while both Harris and Griffith duly carried on from winning their respective divisions at that event.
There were also commendable performances from Broomes, who finished second in the middleweight category; Curtis Kirby, second in the flyweight division; Mike Worrell, second in the bantamweight, and light heavyweight Martinus Durrant, who also placed second.
It marked a successful comeback for Durrant, who was returning to the CAC stage for the first time since 2010 after being banned for two years for using performance-enhancing drugs.
In the body fitness category, Barbados also boasted two second-place finishers in Ramona Morgan in the Under-163cm class and Rishida Belgrave in the Under-158 cm division. (RB)
