Chinese Ambassador Xu Hong hosted a reception at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave headed the list of guests whom the ambassador welcomed on a night that he took the opportunity to introduce his wife Wei Bo, who has recently joined him in his Barbados posting.
Also attending were Chief Justice Marston Gibson, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Speaker of the House of Assembly Michael Carrington, government ministers and other MPs, members of the diplomatic corps, and Marielle Wilkie, Barbados’ representative at the recent Miss World show which took place in Mongolia.
Ambassador Xu Hong said the presence of the Prime Minister and the Governor General demonstrated “the profound friendship between China and Barbados and also between our two peoples”.
Prime Minister Stuart also spoke of the strong ties which the two countries had established and promised even greater cooperation between them.
