Garcia to head to court

In two weeks?time, controversial Cuban national Raul Garcia will face a High Court judge who will determine if his immigration detention will continue or if he shall be set free.
Today, Justice Margaret Reifer made an order that a writ of habeus corpus be issued directing the Minister responsible for immigration and the Chief Immigration Officer “to have the body of the claimant Raul Garcia” brought before a judge of the Supreme Court  on October 24 at 9:30 a.m in order that they may show cause why Garcia should not be immediately released.
The order was issued following a two hour long presentation by a team of attorneys led by attorney-at-law David Comissiong and included Paul Jemmott and Ajuma Boardi. (MB)
