With the theme Let’s Celebrate Literacy, Grazettes Primary School in St Michael is holding a week of events that will focus on reading.
Yesterday, remedial teacher Shioma Porte said the week of activities started Monday with Smokey Burke and Paula Taylor reading to students.
During the week, which ends Friday, parents and other volunteers are expected to come to the school and read to students.
“We are encouraging more reading in the home and school. We are also hoping to foster a love for reading, teach children how to handle books, and we are making children aware of our West Indian writers like George Lamming, Esther Philips, Austin Clarke, Frank Collymore and others,” Porte said. (RL)
