Some schools and businesses operating in the Pine, Wildey area are closed today due to water outages.
Among them are the mechanical department at the Sanitation Service Authority, Parkinson School and Luther Thorne Memorial.
In a release this afternoon, the Barbados Water Authority informed residents of St Barnabas, the Pine, Wildey, Clapham, Upton, Fort George and surrounding areas which were impacted by the outages,  that it had found the source of the problem.   “Investigations have revealed that the situation has resulted from a break on a nine-inch main in the area of Belle Gully, St Michael that transfers water from the Belle Pumping Station to the Fort George Reservoir. This water is then distributed to the named districts. The Authority’s crews are working to repair this burst as quickly as possible and normal service to the affected areas is expected to resume by this evening,” stated the release. Water tankers have been despatched to assist customers in these districts in the interim, however, there may be delays due to heavy demand. The BWA apologised for the inconvenience, adding that it was also carrying out repairs to a burst on a four-inch main in Apes Hill, St James while investigating reports of a burst in St Silas, St James.
