THE TRAGIC DROWNING of 13-year-old Jamar Payne has devastated his family.
The boy died last Friday in a swimming pool at Mangrove Plantation in St Peter, where his aunt Carolyn Lewis was employed.
Yesterday when a SUNDAY?SUN?team visited the family’s residence in Porey Spring, St Thomas, several grief-stricken relatives were gathered.
Lewis explained that she took her nephew to work with her that day because his right hand was injured following an incident at St George Secondary School, which he attended.
“We called the school and let them know that he could not attend because he could not move his hand. I?decided to take him to work with me because we did not want to leave him at home alone,” she said.
When she arrived at her workplace, Lewis said she instructed her nephew not to touch the television set and not to go into the swimming pool.
“I went into a room to do some cleaning and about 20 minutes later I?came out looking for Jamar. I hollered for him and he did not answer. My mind told me to go and when I?went there, I?saw Jamal and hewas not moving.”
The boy’s mother Marlese Trotman, who has five other children, said she was shocked when she found out how her offspring had died.
“I?can’t tell you how I?feel. I?cry so much yesterday and I cry so much this morning. I am all cried out.” (MB)
