When the 2012 Honey Jam Barbados Showcase comes off next Saturday, 19 young aspiring female artistes will take the stage to treat patrons to a musical extravaganza.
The line-up was announced at a Press conference held Tuesday at Divi Southwinds, St Lawrence, Christ Church.
The artistes will be joined by Melissa Bel, who performed at Honey Jam Canada and won a contest sponsored by the Barbados Tourism Authority in Canada which gave her the opportunity to fly to Barbados and perform at the showcase.
Honey Jam producer Ebonnie Rowe said three free workshops, one of which would feature Cover Drive’s Amanda Reifer, would be held for artistes.
Programme manager Chris Harper, of the Barbados Entrepreneurship Foundation, spoke to the artistes about the importance of developing an entrepreneurial spirit, taking an active part in their careers, doing their homework and research, being able to recognize opportunities and taking advantage of them, as well as being proactive and creating their own opportunities.
Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) head Paige Bryan spoke about the organization’s work with women and girls, adding that the YWCA was partnering with Honey Jam to promote its programmes among young women and encourage them to participate.
Introduced as Wonder Women in honour of major sponsor Wonder Bread, the excited young artistes treated those at the Press conference to a taste of what they could expect at the November 17 showcase.
It was also announced that two Honey Jam Barbados alums had been nominated for Barbados Music Awards. Niki Nicole has two nods for Best New Artist and Soul/R&B Female Artist Of The Year while Malissa Alanna was nominated in three categories – Best New Artist, Music Video Of The Year and Pop/Rock/Alternative/Country Artist Of The Year.
