KINGSTON, Jamaica, Nov. 18, CMC-Following the murder of a police officer on the streets of the Corporate area on Friday, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has offered a reward of J$500,000 (US$5,500) for information that can lead them the arrest of those responsible for the death of Corporal Robert Sortie.
Sortie, 50, was gunned down late Friday as he sat in his car along the busy Constant Spring Road in Kingston.
In reacting to news , Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington said the murder is  a grim reminder of the dangers faced by members of the Constabulary in the course of serving and protecting the citizens of Jamaica.
“The brazen murder of Corporal who served his country for 23 years is vivid proof of the ever present danger and the menacing environment which police officers have to encounter daily. The criminals are not afraid to confront the Police and I advise all members of the Constabulary especially going into the holiday period to pay increased attention to their personal safety, the safety of their colleagues and the citizens they serve,” Ellington said.
Meanwhile, Minister of National Security Peter Bunting also condemned the murder of the policeman.
“The fatal shooting of another policeman continues to bring into sharp focus the need for our security personnel to be constantly vigilant. I want all citizens to exercise care and to look out for our each other, even as the holiday season approaches,” he added.
Bunting also urged the security forces to use all legal means to ferret out the gunmen and bring them to justice.
