BLP’s caution

The Barbados Labour Party is charging that even though the Alexandra School Report has been laid in Parliament outlining the findings of Justice Frederick Waterman, the Public Service Commission still has to conduct its own investigations and hearings before it acts on any of the recommendatios put forward.
In response to the laying of the report today, Deputy Opposition Leader Dale Marshall said: “We must assume that the Minister with responsibility for the Civil Service, Prime Minister [Freundel] Stuart, knows the provisions of the Public Service Act. We must also assume that that Minister knows that in order to discipline any member of the Public Service, the Public Service Commission has to conduct its own hearing and investigation of the charges before it can act. Moreover, that Minister must also be aware that no matter the evidence taken before the Commission of Inquiry at the cost of over $600,000.00, the Public Service Commission cannot act upon any findings of Mr. Justice Waterman.”
The Report of the Commission of Inquiry  into the Administration of the Alexandra School, was laid by the Leader of Government Business, The Honourable John Boyce.
While commending Waterman on his work, the BLP said the inquiry would “forever be a symbol of the inability of this DLP administration to grapple with the issues affecting this country.”
