?IN AN UNUSUAL CASE, two British women who were raped in Barbados two years ago have not only secured legal representation for the man charged with attacking them but will appeal to a magistrate today in an attempt to help clear his name.
With the financial assistance of another woman who was raped in 2004, Rachel Turner and Diane Davies have retained Andrew Pilgrim to represent the 47-year-old man. They will be in court to support him when the matter comes up for hearing this morning.
Pilgrim confirmed to the DAILY NATION yesterday that he was contacted three months ago by the women who were adamant that the real perpetrator of the October 2010 attacks, which occurred two days apart, was still at large while an innocent man remained locked up.
“I’ve pointed out [their position] to the court already but having them in now I will be inviting the court to hear them say it on oath,” said Pilgrim, president of the Barbados Bar Association.
