Beer pleasure!
That was clearly what thousands of spectators experienced at the annual semi-finals of the Banks Calendar Girl competition on Thursday night at the popular Bay Garden in Oistins, Christ Church.
They were not just expressing satisfaction to the local brew for the night’s specials of four for $10, but they were satisfied at the end of the competition.
A sizzling 16 young women took to the stage in tees and leggings before returning in bikinis to drive the crowd delirious and create headaches for the judges, who had to pick eight to advance to the finals at the same venue on December 8. Â
Like ants at a picnic with spilled sugar, the spectators swarmed every vantage point, with only the barricades preventing them from taking to the stage.
In the end the crowd-pleasers Neisha Cave, Shawntelle Marshall and Regina Ramjit, along with the pert and saucy Simona Joseph, Shakela Bellamy, Deanne Campbell, Sheldine Mapp and Nakita Ollivierre, got the judges’ nod to battle for the title of Banks Calendar Girl 2013.
While Cave and Ramjit got the greatest support when they appeared in their tees and leggings, Marshall smoked the opposition with her bikini, the bottom of which was in the Banks colours of black and red. Â
Significantly, the contestants showed great creativity in designing their own bikinis.
Unfortunately, this mastery was missing in their handling of the poorly constructed questions in the question and answer section. Only Ramjit impressed with her confidence and handling of her question.
The pint-sized Joseph is not of the height and build of past Banks’ Girls, but her pert and saucy personality wowed the spectators and judges. Campbell, Mapp and Ollivierre could be dark horses come December 8.
Of the eight who did not advance – Sheena Blenman, J’Lisa Charles, Makada Durant, Danika Haynes, Shontelle Maynard, Alia Roberts-Hunte, Leanna Ryce and Nikkita Taylor-Gittens – one of them can still make the finals since fans can vote online and nominate a ninth finalist. (KB)
