Issues?surrounding the controversial Greenland Landfill will shortly be addressed as a parliamentary matter.
Minister of the Environment and Drainage Dr Denis Lowe made the pledge yesterday as he briefed the media on several issues, including littering and overgrown vacant lots.
The minister, who did not go into detail on Greenland said the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Government “had finally pinned down all the information that the public needs to know about Greenland, including the Government’s rationale for discontinuing the effort there relative to a landfill”.
During the 1990s, the then Barbados Labour Party Government began the building of the proposed landfill in St Andrew. After millions had been spent construction problems began to surface and the landfill was deemed unsuitable to hold any waste.
On the issue of overgrown lots, the minister acknowledged that some of the lots belonging to the Crown also were overrun by bush and must be cleared. (JS)
