Facing dwindling supplies, Barbados will soon be importing natural gas.
This was disclosed as the National Petroleum Corporation (NPC) held its annual luncheon yesterday, when chairman Sir Harcourt Lewis spoke of preparations and continuing negotiations for importation.
But Minister with Responsibility for Energy, Senator Darcy Boyce, commented on successful inland oil exploration, expressing a hope that with the discovery of more fossil fuel, natural gas deposits would also be uncovered.
Reporting that NPC and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) collaborated on preparations for a natural gas importation project last year, Sir Harcourt said: “In the new year the corporation will work with the Division of Energy and the negotiating committee of the Government on the importation of natural gas project to deliver natural gas to the island within the near future.” (GA)
