Barbados Twenty20 all-rounder Ashley Nurse contributed with both bat and ball to guide St John Crusaders to an exciting nine-run victory over St Lucy Pirates in the UWI C.O. Williams Inter-Parish Twenty20 cricket competition Thursday night at the 3Ws Oval.
After St John found themselves struggling on 11 for three, Nurse revived their fortunes by hitting 26 off 35 balls to guide them to a fighting total of 123 for nine.
The early damage was caused by pacer Khalid Springer, who grabbed four for 23.
Amory Holder, who hit the topscore of 32 off 27 balls, teamed up with Nurse to lead the fightback, while Jade Padmore also helped the cause with an unbeaten 28 in 20 balls.
Nurse grabbed two for 21, while pacer Padmore and off-spinner Richmael Jordan returned the identical figures of two for 18 to help restrict St Lucy, whose leading batsmen were Shayne Moseley (32) and Larry Babb (31).
It was the first win of the tournament for St John. (HG)
