Fire hydrant concern

SOME BARBADIANS ARE too careless where fire hydrants are concerned, putting obstacles in the way of the fire service, acting Chief Fire Officer Errol Maynard has said.
“We have cars parked on them, people setting up objects too close to them, people covering them with different objects and sometimes even gardens [are grown around them],”?Maynard told a news briefing at the service’s Probyn Street headquarters in Bridgetown yesterday.
“I think because we use hydrants that are below the ground, they can be easily covered,” he said.
As such, Maynard said he would prefer if Barbados utilized above ground hydrants instead as the underground ones were apt to get filled with debris.
