ST?THOMAS Warriors, led by a mesmerizing spell of spin bowling from Marlon Hoyte with the new ball, have caught a big fish enroute to securing a semi-final place in the C.O. Williams/UWI Inter-Parish Twenty20 Cricket Competition.
Hoyte took three for 20, including the key scalps of Dwayne Smith and Martin Nurse as 2010 champions Christ Church Dolphins crashed out of the tournament when they lost by 11 runs to St Thomas at the 3Ws Oval on Wednesday night.
Sent in, St Thomas recovered from 46 for three, with Smith doing the early damage, to post a challenging total of 153 for eight.
There were useful knocks from Damian Hoyte (36), Pedro Greaves and Akeem Springer, with 30 each, and a quickfire 23 off 13 balls by Ryan Nurse.
In response, Christ Church captain Carlos Brathwaite smashed three sixes and two fours in an attacking 54 off 47 balls. However, his efforts weren’t enough as he was one of two wickets for pacer Khismar Catlin, who had earlier bounced out new Barbados T20 selectee Roston Chase for seven.
