Farmers assured access to market

FARMERS will have guaranteed access to a market at least once a month.
Speaking at the farmers market at the compound of the offices of the Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (BADMC) at Fairy Valley, last Saturday, Agribusiness Development Officer Ian Eastman said it was part of the fulfilment of the mandate given to the BADMC.
“We have a very clear mandate from Government to assist farmers, which should translate into a reduction of imports into this country, which at the same time should be a part of the healthy lifestyle programme that is now being touted in all the ministries,” Eastman explained.
He said the cost of produce could be driven down considerably if farmers could get the food from the ground directly to the consumer. (YB)
