YOU MAY ASK me what made the pre-Christmas service at Prayer Warriors International led by Pastor Courtney Selman so special last Saturday morning.
Could it have been the food hampers that were given out to each individual? The announcement to commence a Back To Sunday School Programme, or the preacher’s message?
For some, it could have been all of the above. However, from where I sat, it was three-year-old Mark Sutherland’s reciting not one or two, but five verses of scripture from the Old and New Testament.
Undaunted by people or speaking into a microphone, pint-sized Mark shared his memorized verses with a great amount of gusto, underscoring the biblical claim that “a little child shall lead them”.
He, together with the St Mark’s Primary School student who shared the scripture reading, also brought home the reality that children such as they are quite capable of being the leaders of tomorrow.
Those who attended this service, which witnessed the singing of Christmas hymns and spreading of good cheer, listened as Minister Ordean Griffith shared a short but thought-provoking message based on Luke 2:10-14.
Paying close attention to the humble environment into which Jesus Christ was born, Griffith said His birth in a manger was indicative of the humble life he would later live as the Son of Man. She said he was born in a lowly estate to show us that despite our situations or class in life, “God considers each person to be somebody.”
“If Jesus was born in a palace, many would not acknowledge Him as a king. Today He is no longer a baby, but He is seated at His Father’s right hand making intercession for us.
Regardless of what we need in life [He is able to fulfil each role],” she said, as she described the Son of God as the best counsellor, financial advisor, provider and healer.
She added that His death on Calvary’s cross “brings life and purpose to those whose lives are messed up and condemned”, and as He took our place on Calvary’s Cross, we can rejoice today because of the hope found in His resurrection.
“His birth, despite the circumstances, was a joyous time, and it brought glory to God in the Highest, peace and goodwill towards men.
“Jesus will not only be with us at Christmas time, like some relatives are, but He is an all-time, on-time God.
“The God we are serving does not give up on us. He always comes through for us. That is the good news – that He will never leave you nor forsake you, for He is faithful,” she concluded.
