Pine Hill Dairy (PHD)?could be facing court action if it continues with plans to halve the amount of milk bought from dairy farmers.
This is the intent emerging from a Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS)?meeting yesterday, at which representatives of the island’s 17 dairy farms expressed outrage at a notice by PHD of plans to cut by 43 per cent the amount of milk it buys from them come Tuesday.
Meeting at the society’s headquarters at The Grotto on Beckles Road, St Michael, some farmers said they would file injunctions if the BAS board did not.
The meeting was punctuated by accusations of Pine Hill Dairy favouring outside suppliers of powdered milk over local fresh milk, and there being a sinister plot against the local industry. (GA)
