The date is still a mystery but the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) says it is finalizing plans to take nationwide industrial action against telecommunications giant Cable & Wireless, trading as LIME.
And the Barbados Employers’ Confederation (BEC) is advising private sector bosses not only to prepare for the fallout but to assure workers they will not be victimized if they take part in the strike.
BWU general Secretary Sir Roy Trotman has called a meeting of the Cable & Wireless Division of the union at Solidarity House this evening to “proceed with the final plans for industrial action against the company in defence of the workers’ rights to exercise freedom of association and the right to bargain collectively”.
That will be followed tomorrow evening by a meeting of presidents and secretaries of the other divisions of the union to assist in putting those plans together. (DP)
