Doctors’ call for Dodds

Wanted: Registered nurses and medical doctors to work at a penal institution.
Having received no suitable applications for the advertised post of prison doctor and prison nurse, it is the intention of the Government of Barbados to apply for a work permit for a non-national to fill this position.
Those two notifications could soon be seen in local papers, because Barbadian health care professionals seem uninterested in working at the country’s lone correctional facility, Her Majesty’s Prison at Dodds.
Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs, Adriel Brathwaite today bemoaned the fact that resources of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Six Roads Polyclinic are being placed under severe pressure to service the medical needs of inmates housed at the Dodds prison.
The minister made the revelation whilst introducing a resolution for $1 296 733 to be drawn from the Consolidated Fund to be used to facilitate payments to Dodds Prison and the Barbados Fire Service.
