A Government stimulus cannot create sustainable growth in the economy.
Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados Dr DeLisle Worrell stated this unequivocally yesterday while making it clear that there was no quick fix to the sluggish economic performance.
In recent times, both the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP) have called for some form of stimulus to increase consumer demand.
But Worrell stressed that growth had to be led by the private sector and the focus had to be on improving competitiveness. (NB)
