This year’s Inspire Sports National Sports Council Under-13 Cricket Tournament is set to be one of the most exciting and competitive.
The competition, which will bowl off today, is in its fourth year and will see one more team participating this year than did last year.
Empire will be fielding a team for the first time, and with players such as Romi Holder, Zachary Parris and the Harrison College duo of Zion and Ahijah Hill. The Jason Haynes-coached outfit is expected to give a good account of themselves.
It will be no easy task for the defending champions Dover Juniors, who have lost several key players, including national players Najee Holder and Lamar Pierce, the competition’s leading run scorer last year.
However, with the likes of Joshua Bishop, Kadeem Alleyne, Camarie?Boyce and Jadan Jones returning, they will still fancy their chances of repeating as champions.
St Philip Juniors also boast a strong team led by Shian Brathwaite, who led Combermere to the Republic Bank National Sports Council Rightstart Everton Weekes Under-13 title recently.
Also expected to mount a serious challenge will be Fusionz Boutique Passage United, two-time winners of the competition.
Competing in Zone B, Dover will start their title defence at home against Marks Auto Spares Young Blazers, while St Philip Juniors and Passage United both in Zone A, will face Ellerton Juniors and Al Falah Juniors, respectively.
All games will commence at noon. (RB)
