IT IS A POLICE OFFICER and not an Immigration official whom Shanique Myrie’s lawyer wants to take the stand in her suit against the Barbados Government, as the Jamaican woman pursues a claim that she was indecently assaulted at Grantley Adams International Airport two years ago.
While Myrie had previously alleged she was subjected to a cavity search by a female Immigration officer, her lawyer Michelle Brown is now asking the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) to call a female police officer to give testimony, saying she is a crucial witness.
That confirmation came yesterday from attorney for the Barbados Government Roger Forde, who told the SUNDAY SUN that while it was not his style to comment on cases before the court, he needed to set the record straight on behalf of Immigration officers who were affected by the allegations made against one of their own.
His comments came after CCJ Justices Désirée Bernard, Jacob Witt and Winston Anderson on Thursday heard the application from Brown who said the officer was “very important to the court coming to the truth of what happened” on March 14, 2011 when her client arrived in Barbados.
