One of Barbados’ cricketing legends has made a call for Ronald “Suki” King to receive a national honour.
Sir Wesley Hall made the suggestion as he delivered the feature address at the National Sports Council’s Annual National Sports Awards Ceremony at the Frank Collymore Hall last Saturday night.
Sir Wesley, a former Minister of Sport, said that the time had come for King, the world Go-As-You-Please draughts champion, to be rewarded for his achievements.
He said that even when he was Minister of Sport back in the 1980s, people had been recommending that King be honoured.
“I think that we have to really make a great effort to do something special for Ronald ‘Suki’ King,” he told Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley, who was present, much to the delight of the audience, who responded with rapturous applause.
“There are a lot of new roundabouts and a lot of new roads in Barbados so, Mr Minister, I am begging you; I think we should remember one of the greatest minds that sports has ever seen.” (JM)
