THE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN has apparently taken its toll on a well-known company that has been operating in Barbados for half-a-century.
While management of Mademoiselle store chain, known mainly for selling shoes, is remaining tight-lipped about the company’s state of affairs, the SUNDAY SUN has been reliably informed that a number of smaller chain stores have closed. The branch in Holetown, St James, shut shop on January 31, while that in Wildey officially closed its doors yesterday.
Only the store in Prince William Henry Street, The City, remains.
The company once operated at nine locations in Bridgetown, St Michael, St Peter, Christ Church, St Philip and St James, according to published information. More than 20 staffers are now on the breadline. (YB)
