GEORGETOWN,Guyana, Feb 17, CMC – Guyana’s Aviation Minister Robeson Benn has called on the management of Fly Jamaica Airline to meet certain conditions before it begins flights out of the country.
Benn has asked for the submission of corporate financial information as well as a bond from the airline.
“The government of Guyana, like any responsible government and particularly for airlines which are coming to Guyana and we are having failures and withdrawal, has to be interested in whether there is viability and sustainability and financing for that operation,” he said.
The Aviation Minister noted that the request was a standard requirement worldwide.
“The government of Guyana has to have, as is normal for these kind of investments, information on the major players in the investment, in the undertaking,” he said.
Since receiving its Air Operators Certificate (AOC) last September, Fly Jamaica has applied to the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to fly to Guyana.
The airline has already conducted a ‘proving flight’ to Guyana with Jamaican civil aviation officials aboard.
Last Thursday Fly Jamaica started commercial flights from Jamaica to the United States ,  plans  are now in the making to fly from the Georgetown-New York route via Jamaica.
Fly Jamaica Airways is a partnership between chief executive officer Paul Ronald Reece who is from Guyana and three Jamaican shareholders including Chief Operating Officer (COO) Captain Lloyd Tai who was a pilot with Air Jamaica.
