HOCKEY?FANS?will converge at the UWI AstroTurf facility tonight for the semi-finals of the University of the West Indies Scrimfest Championship.
At 7 p.m., Hockey Freekz will oppose BB Limerz in the opening women’s semi-final, while Combermere School Old Scholars will meet the UWI Hockey Club in the second semi at 8:40 p.m.
The unbeaten Cool Runnings will clash with UWI?Hockey Club (UWIHC) in the first men’s semi-final at 7:50 p.m. and Live Up will meet CSOS in the other men’s semi-final at 9:30 p.m.
In last Friday’s final set of preliminary matches, CSOS?girls beat UWIHC?3-0 with goals from Katrina Downes (2nd), Venessa Chewitt (3rd) and Shalana Payne (23rd).
In a preview of their semi-final, Hockey Freekz pummelled BB Limerz 9-0 with Patrina Brathwaite scoring five goals in the first, 15th, 20th, 28th and 30th minutes. Sheena Nicholls had a brace in the 17th and 29th minutes, while Shakira Oxley and Cherise Moore were also on target.
Cool Runnings had their stiffest match so far, edging Deacons 4-3, courtesy a hat-trick by Ramon Leacock in the first, ninth and 27th minutes. Che Warner also scored for the winners in the sixth minute. Shonkeel Wharton (17th), Derwin Burrowes (25th) and Neil Franklin (29th) got Deacons’ goals.
In another match, Justin Catlin was on target an amazing six times (1st, 10th, 17th, 19th, 27th and 29th) as Blackbirds blanked the Barbados Defence Force 8-0. Khodi Gibson (5th) and Che Roach (16th) were the other goalscorers.
