An accident at Cane Garden, St Thomas, yesterday morning involving a Transport Board bus and a privately owned garbage truck resulted in 27 people, most of them schoolchildren, having to receive medical attention.
The two vehicles collided around 8 a.m.
Courtney Bishop, of Spooners Hill, St Michael, the driver of the truck owned by Garbage Management Inc., received injuries to his legs, neck and hand, while his assistant 51-year-old Alvin Payne, of Bank Hall, St Michael, suffered head injuries.
Twenty-five of the 70 student passengers from the Grantley Adams Memorial School, along with the driver, complained of soft tissue injuries.
Those students were treated on site, having been assessed by Dr David Byer from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, who was assisted by three paramedics.
Personnel from the Barbados Fire Service, the Transport Board and the Department of Emergency Management responded. (AH)
