The Caribbean Examinations Council is reporting improved performance in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate examinations this year, especially in English literature.
A Press release yesterday stated the overall results of the January 2013 sitting had improved over last January’s. It stated 49 per cent of the entries achieved Grades 1 to 3 this year, compared with 45 per cent last year.
As for English literature, there was an improvement in performance this year, with 62 per cent of the entries achieving acceptable grades, compared with 32 per cent in 2012. This year there was improved performance on all three profiles (drama, poetry and prose fiction).
It was noted that the decline in performance in 2012 was due mainly to candidates using the incorrect texts to prepare for the examination. (PR)
