BASSETERRE – St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas is backing his Tourism Minister Richard Skerritt to sit on the West Indies Cricket Board as a representative of Caribbean governments.
Skerrit is among nominees for the position following discussions at a CARICOM summit in Port-au-Prince last week.
Douglas said Caribbean leaders had taken a decision that a government representative or director representing the government would sit on the regional cricket board.
“I would say to you that Senator Skerritt was one of the persons who were nominated for consideration by the Heads of Government,” he said. “I think sometime later, we would hear the outcome of this.
“St Kitts and Nevis is very pleased to put forward his name – given his experience and given the significance [of] . . .  the contribution that he has been involved in, in particular in preparing our venues here for the hosting of World Cup matches in 2007.
Skerritt, who is also a government senator and a former West Indies team manager, said he participated actively in matters on the agenda relating to West Indies cricket during the recent summit. (CMC)
