Inflammatory and divisive is how the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP)?has described comments made by new Minister of Industry Donville Inniss on doctors’ fees.
Inniss said in a speech on Friday that the fee structure for health care professionals and lawyers was so skewed in their favour that it had resulted in wealth for a “few” and “crumbs for the majority of Barbadians”.
He was speaking at an event hosted by the Fair Trading Commission (FTC).
The president of BAMP,?Dr Carlos Chase, said in a statement that the compensation issue for doctors had been addressed two years ago when Inniss was Minister of Health.
Chase said: “We were very surprised and disappointed that the new Minister would include the medical profession in his inflammatory and divisive comments since he should recall two years ago when he was Minister of Health that BAMP addressed this very issue with FTC.
